This Day Sgian Dubh has an Interlinking Celtic Knot handle with a Scottish Thistle Emblem embedded in the handle. The thistle has long been a symbol of Scotland and is often referred to as the Flower Emblem of Scotland. Sgian Dubh means ‘hidden/black blade’ in Scots Gaelic, and they were used as secret weapons over the centuries. When meeting a rival the blade would be hidden in the sock or under the arm, and only produced when things turned ugly!
