A fine Black Wood forms the handle of this Day Sgian Dubh. A Celtic Knot metal trim creates an elegant detail. Attached to the Hilt is a shiny Thistle emblem. The Thistle has long been the flower icon of Scotland and it is found spread wide across the countryside! A Glass Gemstone sits in the tip of the handle, adding an extra touch of extravagance!
Sgian Dubh is derived from Scots Gaelic and literally translates as ‘Hidden Knife’. Sgian Dubhs were concealed in the hose or boot to be used in defence or for a surprise attack! It also has the alternative spelling of ‘skean dhu’.
Day Sgian Dubhs are less formal than their Dress counterparts, and are best suited to be worn at informal or day events. They match well with a range of jackets, especially Tweeds.
