This Wooden Day Sgian Dubh has three Scottish Icons carved into the hilt design. The Scottish Saltire at the base of the blade, the Flag of Scotland. The Lion Rampant design which has been part of the Royal Banner of Scotland since the 12th century. Finally, the top of the handle is fashioned to resemble a castles turret, giving reference to the many castles build around Scotland throughout its history for defence!
Sgian Dubh comes from the Scots Gaelic for ‘hidden blade’. These small knifes were used to cut scraps of food and for defence. They could be concealed down the sock or under the arm then brought out to surprise an enemy!
Wear your Sgian Dubh at the side of your dominant hand, sitting at the top of the kilt hose with only the hilt showing.
